The Stage Crew
Stage:
Making other people’s dreams in to reality.
(Providing support and infrastructure for other people’s programme items)
Intensive panic with long boring bits in between.
Bursts of heavy work under tight timescales.
Always need to work when everyone else seems to be resting.
Never around in the Village when it’s mealtimes as you need the area to be empty so you can work in safety.
Rarely in front of stage when the interesting stuff is on.
Witness the sheer panic every evening as the Media team try and get the news out on time while there are 500 people getting bored.
Scream with frustration with ’Hmm, it didn’t do THAT yesterday’.
Learn new ways of trying to keep the punters happy with a limited power supply.
Get used to anything up to a 16 hour working day – 10 am to 2 am if it’s necessary.
Huge rewards as you see hundreds of happy campers forget about the rain and wind. A warm smug feeling when you look at the pictures on Facebook and go – “Bloody hell, that looks good. Was I really part of that?”
The only time it works well is when no-one knows how hard you’ve worked.
