Programme Coordinator

There is no doubt that Venturer Camp 2010 is going to be utterly amazing. This application is a product of the excitement, enthusiasm and passion resulting from that fact. Coming out co-ordinating DF Camp 09 I found myself wrestling with that all too familiar feeling of ‘Never doing that again…’ no doubt many of you have experienced it. But as the fatigue subsided and the joyous memories cemented themselves I found my heart taking a U-turn, found myself seriously considering a proper commitment to V Camp 2010.

There were a few facts that helped this along; the emphasis on Venturer involvement, the realization that actually being program co-ordinator would be far more about allowing Venturers to facilitate their own incredible week than put it on a plate for them; the chance to help a whole myriad of centres and districts add their own inputs to the program and to work in what looks to be a top-notch team.

DF Camp 09 forced me to hone skills in budgeting, time management and holistic programming (for want of a less hippy phrase…) that would be happily utilised and sharpened with this post. It also taught me the value of variation, of challenging ourselves to put on less ‘safe’ workshops, to make conventionally dull topics engaging and to see how the best events are often rely on sparks of imagination and quick-witted adaptation rather than big budgets and fancy power-point.

I’d like to make sure the program this year is as close to 100% sustainable, powered renewably on site, as possible. I’d like to use my involvement within the TREE communications group to help make sure this year’s Woodcraft Campaign, along with the theme of group transition within the folk, can take a centre stage. But mainly, I’d like for V Camp 2010’s program to not be about what I’d like, but what Venturers and participating groups would like. With futures as the theme, let’s let them imagine their own.  I’ve got the time, the energy and the will to help make sure that V Camp 2010 is as inclusive and incredible as possible.

  • Coordinates the programme
  • Produces Central programme for the start and end of the camp
  • Coordinates the theme and learning in the camp
  • Should have run a centre at a camp and be dynamic with ideas for new and exciting ways of learning.
