Camp Administrator

I’m not entirely sure why I am writing this, it maybe my fascination with paperwork, process and getting things done in a particular way, however I think that it is more to do with the young people, my love for educating for social change and my part in fashioning a new world though the folk that leads me to this point. Either way, I’m applying to be the Administrator and Treasurer for the next Venturer Camp because I believe that at these event we really make a difference.
I was involved in the last camp which (even if I do say so my self) was a great success and took on the same role that I am applying for, at the camp I also took on the role as Deputy Coordinator, meeting with Dan (the Coordinator) regularly, coordinating with the site, policy issues and also being the main contact for leaders.
I have experience in running camps being a young person actively involved with IC2001, I sat on the Global village 2006 committee, and have attended, run workshops and just been a general helper as more camps than I can remember.
I don’t believe in making office work tiresome, it should me a goal to an ends. I see my role as supporting every leader and adult in getting their group to camp, making the administration work and making sure that we work on budget. This isn’t a role that is just “lay” but involved a detailed understanding of camps and the way we work, without that understanding of how we work and history in the organisation I truly believe that we would have been unable to produce a camp in 2009 that was under budget by 10k and left no centre or area wanting more.
In my “real” life, I’m a student, the Director of a Fair Trade Café and Social Centre, the national treasurer for Education Not for Sale (a national free education origination) and also have been the treasurer-secretary of student Unions and trustee for the British Youth Council and currently Chair of the folk’s General Council.
